STOP YOUR FKN SKIN PICKING

Lifestyle · BEAUTY BY G

DEAR READER, DEAR SELF.

We are grown enough to know that acting purely on impulse is literally so lame.
If you found this article because you’re desperately trying to stop skin picking, you’re here for the same reason as why I wrote it, I’M TIREDDD.
I don’t see a necessity in describing any details as I KNOW we all been there, done that so I will keep it short. It is unnecessary as hell, it just robs a lot of energy and it gives you a negative feeling.
I won’t judge you, but personally, I’m SO FUCKING DONE feeling like a loser (and looking like a mess) over a habit I know I have the power to change.
Bare with me and in a week you won’t recognize yourself.

Disclaimer

If skin picking feels impossible to control, acts as a form of self harm or is causing significant distress, don’t hesitate to reach out for professional support. Therapy is expensive but it will work wonders.

THE CONSEQUENCES

Turn on your logical thinking for a minute. A small spot will be gone in 2 days if you ignore it and maybe put a pimple patch on it. So why would you create an open wound in the middle of your face and expect it to make your face look better…
Girl. Be so fucking for real. Your skin knows how to heal. Give it a chance.
Besides the obvious impact on the skin I’m also done with questioning my sanity and my beauty. The feeling of how looking into the bathroom mirror and realizing what you did to your face/arms/whatever. I keep telling myself that making me feel even worse isn’t going to undo what happened neither. BUT THE FRUSTRATION.
If those reasons aren’t enough, think about the amount of money you have to spend on laser treatments for the scars. now lets get to the point, how do we quit?

GET SOME DISCIPLINE

I don’t care if you’re disciplined in every other aspect of your life. Every single time you feel the urge to pick at your skin, you can choose to give in or resist. Think for yourself what that says about your discipline.
It wont be easy in the beginning but the more often you interrupt the habit, the more your brain unlearns the habit (I guess). It’s like an addiction. But I stopped smoking, too so no excuse. Learn to sit with an uncomfortable urge.

Mindfulness.

I practice being mindful of my words, my actions, how I treat others, the energy i radiate.
But isn’t it hypocritical to preach mindfulness while not apply it to yourself.
Next time, the exact moment you get the urge to pick on your skin, just stop and watch what happens within yourself.
Recall your principles, what you read here and why it makes absolutely zero sense to follow this urge rn.
Turn away from the mirror, get something between your fingers (sudoku, needle ball, pen and paper, book, glass of water, etc., endless options), watch the urge fade away. Every thing else like short nails, noticing the triggers, etc. you can find in dozens of articles, I’m not gonna repeat all that.
Don’t spiral in negativity if you slip up. It can happen. Just be conscious about it and find out how you can do better next time.

FINALly

You can spend your attention on something so much better than a fucking spot.
Stop treating our skin like it’s a problem that needs to be fixed every time you look in the mirror.
You are beautiful, and your natural skin, every imperfection is part of that beauty.
We’re improving one day at a time.
I would love if you shared your progress, tips, feedback and advice with me.

XO G

HANDS OFF. You’ve got this.
